Fellow Presents at U.S. Consulate in Chengdu on African American Poets

 

Recently, in honor of African American History Month, the English Language Fellow at Sichuan Normal University, John Moulton, did a special presentation at the US Consulate in Chengdu entitled "African American Poets: I, Too, Sing America". The presentation featured poems by several celebrated authors including Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou and others. In addition to the poetry reading, there was a brief introduction to each poet and the period in which they lived. After the presentation, there were questions from the audience regarding the poets and their poems and about race relations in the United States.

Fellow Presents at U.S. Consulate in Chengdu on Vocabulary Knowledge

In December, 2008, John Moulton, the English Language Fellow at Sichuan Normal University, did a special presentation at the US Consulate in Chengdu. The topic was "Vocabulary Knowledge: What you need to know about vocabulary to improve your English", which was an attempt to take academic research on vocabulary knowledge and present it in a way that typical English learners could understand. Over 200 people attended, about half of which were John's students from the university and the rest were members of the local community. The presentation was about an hour long with an additional 45 minutes for questions from the audience.
