English Language Fellow Program
The Office of English Language Programs in Washington, DC in coordination with Georgetown University recruits the Fellows for the worldwide program. Upon approval, the candidate will be given a Fellowship to work at the host institution for 10 months. The Office of English Language Programs will provide the Fellows with roundtrip air fare, a stipend (salary), health insurance, and a small book allowance.
The host institutions are asked to provide, either in kind or in money, adequate lodging, local transportation to and from the office, office space with a computer and Internet connection. If the Fellow is expected to travel outside the institution to assist with an institution program, the institution will provide the transportation.
How to host an EL fellow?
Institutions that are interested in hosting a Fellow for an academic year are requested to submit a written proposal to the Regional English Language Office in the U.S. Embassy in Beijing or to the Public Affairs Section of the nearest U.S. Consulate. The proposals must include:
The name of the institution and the department in the institution where the Fellow will work
Complete contact information (office phone, mobile phone, office fax, e-mail address) for the person(s) who will be responsible for the Fellow program and the Fellow at the institution
Background information on the host institution and the department in which the Fellow will work
A statement on why the institution would like to host a Fellow and the expected results
A description of the work that the Fellow will be expected to carry out including course names and number of hours per week taught for each course, the level of students the Fellow will address (undergraduate or post graduate; proficiency level; fields of study such as English majors, non-English majors), office hours the Fellow is expected to hold, any projects the Fellow may be engaged in such as an outreach program to give workshops to local high school English teachers, developing a course curriculum, or developing course materials (include the amount of time the Fellow is expected to work on such a project)
A line-item budget that states what the institution is willing to provide the Fellow including the estimated value of any in-kind support such as an apartment and utilities, or transportation (stating that this will be in-kind support and not given as cash to the Fellow).
The deadline for submitting the proposal is December 17 of each year.
