IRS TAX WORKSHOP FOR U.S. TAXPAYERS LIVING ABROAD

IRS Tax Workshop for U.S. Taxpayers Living Abroad

Due to popular demand there will be a second session of the Tax Workshop, also to be held at the Beijing American Center.   If you cannot make it to the February 23rd session, please register for this workshop on Thursday, March 22nd

Are you a U.S. citizen or U.S. taxpayer?  If so, you have an obligation to report your worldwide income to the IRS, whether you actually owe any tax or not.  Come to the workshop to learn about:

  • Foreign Earned Income Exclusion – who is eligible and how much can you exclude?
  • Foreign Tax Credit – can you take this in conjunction with the exclusion?
  • Who must file tax returns – how about a foreign spouse?
  • Foreign Bank Account Report (FBAR) – what is it and does it apply to me?
  • New foreign asset reporting requirement – What is Form 8938 and who must file this?

These topics, and much more, will be covered in the IRS workshop.   Don’t miss it!  

Registration

The workshop will be held in the Beijing American Center on Thursday, February 23rd from 2-4 pm and Thursday, March 22nd from 2-4 pm. To register, please RSVP at least 24 hours prior to the workshop to amcitbeijing@state.gov.  Write “Tax Workshop” in the subject line and include the names of all who would like to participate in the body of the email.   You will be sent a registration for the workshop which you must present at the door, along with your passport or official Chinese ID.  Interested individuals must RSVP at least 24 hours before the event.  Only those who have pre-registered will be admitted.

The Beijing American Center (BAC) is on the 28th floor of the Jingguang Center (京广中心), located  on the East Third Ring Road, on the northwest corner of Jingguang Bridge.  The nearest Metro stop is Hujialou (呼家楼), exit D.

All participants must arrive by 1:45 to go through security before the workshop begins.  Due to security regulations, please do not bring cell phones, any electronics (including computers, PDAs, USB drives and music players), cameras, liquids or large bags.
