Six Party Talks 2007

Afternoon Walkthrough August 16

Remarks By Christopher R. Hill
Assistant Secretary of State For East Asian and Pacific Affairs
Afternoon Walk-Throughs With Journalists
Intercontinental Hotel, Shenyang, China August 16, 2007

(Entering the hotel)

QUESTION:  How was your meeting?

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL:  Very good.  It was all a bout disablement and declaration and technical questions and making sure we were in sync before we start the plenary, which starts at three o'clock.

QUESTION:  Do you have any other bilaterals?

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL:  Just talked very briefly with the Chinese.  I met briefly with Li Gun but didn't really have a bilateral.  We talked with all the delegations.  We had sort of a buffet lunch.

QUESTION:  With Li Gun, you talked about?

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL:  Just very briefly.

QUESTION:  Anything of substance?

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL:  No.

Okay?  We'll see you all later.

(Leaving the hotel)

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL:  We've got the three o'clock plenary.  We're going off to the three o'clock plenary, and I'll come back afterwards and we can talk about what actually happened at the plenary.  I really don't have anything new now.

QUESTION:  Did you meet with Mr. Li Gun?

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL:  Very briefly at lunch there.  Let's see what happens today.  Let's see if it is as I've described -- that is, there should be an exchange of technical approaches to problems that need to be put together in agreement at the next Six-Party plenary.

QUESTION:  Will you brief after dinner after your meetings?

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL:  I think I come here after dinner, so I think it will be later on.  But stay in touch with Susan.  She'll let you know.  She knows more than I do.

See you later.
