Six Party Talks 2007

Pre-Dinner Walkthrough September 29

Remarks by Christopher R. Hill
Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs
Pre-Dinner Walk-thru, St. Regis Hotel
Beijing, China
September 29, 2007

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL:  Sorry, don’t have anything tonight.  We’re just going to dinner, and we’re waiting to get the Chinese draft back.  We made our comments many hours ago so…

QUESTION:  The draft contains most of the points that you have (inaudible)?

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL:  It’s a pretty complete draft that we made some comments, but I don’t know what the others think about it.  I don’t know if we’ll have a joint statement or not.

QUESTION:  Do you expect the Chinese are going to give you the second draft at the dinner?

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL:  I don’t think so.  I think it will be something later if they do it, but I don’t know if we’ll have a draft.  We don’t really -- We know what we have to do ahead.  So I’m not sure we really needed -- So we’ll see.  We’ll see what they come up with.  I just can’t comment right now.  I just don’t know.

QUESTION:  Will you talk with us tonight when you come back after the dinner?

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL:  Mike, if you have nothing else to do and are still standing there when I come back here, I’ll talk to you.

QUESTION:  Thank you sir.

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL:  Try not to talk about baseball.

QUESTION:  So do you hope to wrap this up by tomorrow, Mr. Hill?

ASSISTANT SECRETARY HILL:  I sure do.  I had hoped to wrap it up by today.

QUESTION:  Thank you.
