Statement on Treasury Under-Secretary Stuart Levey’s visit to Beijing
U.S. Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Stuart A. Levey visited Beijing from November 12-14.
While here, Under Secretary Levey consulted with Chinese Government officials and financial institutions on the importance of protecting the international financial system from being misused by Iran to support its illicit activities. In that context, Under Secretary Levey discussed with officials the recent statement by the Financial Action Task Force -- the world's premier standard-setting body for countering terrorist financing and money laundering -- highlighting the significant threat Iran poses to the international financial system.
Under Secretary Levey also shared information on actions recently taken by the United States against entities and individuals supporting Iran's proliferation and terrorism activities. The discussions were serious and constructive.
