Fulbright Programs for Chinese Universities

Senior Specialists Program
In order to extend the scope and reach of the traditional program in a new era, the Fulbright Senior Specialists Program has been initiated to provide short-term Fulbright grants of two to six weeks. Fulbright Senior Specialist activities will be designed to provide U.S. faculty and professionals with opportunities to collaborate with professional counterparts on curriculum and faculty development, institutional planning and a variety of other activities.

A Chinese university interested in requesting a Fulbright Senior Specialist must seek the approval of the U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate in the region, who will provide them with the appropriate application form, usually at least 3 months prior to the start date for the project.

In the Beijing consular district: The requesting university inviting a Specialist for the fall semester, should submit an application by June 1. For the spring semester, the deadline is November 15.

U.S. Fulbright Guest Lecture Program
The Educational Exchanges staff of the U.S. Embassy in Beijing manages a small in-country lecture program that allows one semester and full-year U.S. Fulbright Lecturers to travel from their host universities to give presentations at universities throughout China. The primary focus is on the development of American studies in Chinese universities. Lecturers may address topics in American foreign policy, history, literature, politics and society and culture, as well as business, economics, and higher education.

Universities wishing to arrange for Guest Lectures on their campuses should send a written invitation (via mail, fax or e-mail) directly to the U.S. Lecturer in China. The university should provide free accommodations and, if requested, assist in booking return tickets to the Lecturer’s host institution. The Fulbright Program will pay for travel expenses to and from the Guest Lecture host institution once at least two lectures have been arranged and approved by the Fulbright office in Beijing.

The Educational Exchanges Office in Beijing maintains a directory of each year's Lecturers and their lecture topics.
