RELO Outreach Trip to Macau
RELO Education and Youth Affairs Bureau of Macao Visit, March 20, 2008
In the morning of March 20, RELO Anderson and Solomon Wong met with officials of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau of Macao. Attending the meeting were Adelina Santos, Director of the Center of Languages, Ms. Wu Kit and Mr. Sio Chon In of the Center of Education Resources. They explained the urgent need for improvement in the current English teaching situation of Macao and invited RELO Anderson to come to Macao to provide some training to local teachers in July.

At 11:30, RELO Anderson joined the English Language Center (ELC) Spring Seminar as one of the 3 key speakers. There were over 100 attendees mainly composed of English teachers. The theme of the seminar was "Understanding, Assessing, and Improving Student Writing." RELO Anderson’s presentation focused on the use of the Rubric as a tool in improving students’ performance. The response to the RELO talk was excellent with many good comments and questions. The ELC would like the RELO to come back again to give more talks and workshops.
RELO Macao School Visits, March 20, 2008
At 14:30, RELO Anderson and Solomon Wong visited the Colegio Diocesano de Sao Jose, Macau, a Catholic school established in Macao in 1932. They met with a team of school administrators and English teachers led by Vice Principal Mr. Anthony Koc. They emphasized their wish on having the RELO’s assistance in facilitating their teacher training programs during the summer break. They also expressed their desire in establishing partnerships with schools in the United States for teacher exchange.
At 15:30, RELO Anderson and Solomon Wong visited the Escola Secundaria Pui Ching Macau, one of the best schools in Macao. They met with the Principal, Mr. Kou Kam Fai and the school’s English subject leaders. They welcomed future assistance from the RELO office. They also expressed their interest in encouraging their teachers to join RELO’s webchat programs.
