10/year
This remains a wonderful, witty, and fearless publication. If your perspective is liberal, and you enjoy a publication that will take on anyone and anything, no matter how large or potentially troublesome, this is the title for you. The "Tilting potentially troublesome"
feature specializes in pointing out the foolishness, and often-outright stupidity, of institutions and bureaucrats of all stripes. The "Memo of the Month" section highlights in-house messages that are even more obscure or pointless than the norm. The articles are well written, entertaining, and supported by logic that critics of Washington Monthly often find difficult to refute. The sly, irreverent tone, particularly in "Tilting at Windmills," is a large part of this publication's attraction; one might not agree with the viewpoint, but it is fun to read. This is a journal that deserves a home in every library. There is a web page that provides selected articles and the table of contents from the current issue. Archives of 1988 and 1999 articles are available. Happily, the "Tilting at Windmills" column is
