Please note: You may only make an appointment corresponding to the particular visa class for which you are applying. For example, if your appointment corresponds to a different type of visa class, such as an appointment for a student visa when you intend to apply for a tourist visa, you will not be allowed to interview during your scheduled time, and you will be required to reschedule.

In order to more efficiently process record numbers of visa applicants through security, effective immediately, visa applicants cannot bring cell phones or large bags into the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. Applicants should bring only their passports and application materials. Thank you for your understanding as we strive to improve our service to the public.
NOTICE:
In order to improve customer service and keep wait times down for nonimmigrant visa appointments, beginning February 17, 2011, all applicants in China will have the choice of applying for their nonimmigrant visas within the consular district where they reside, or at another U.S. consulate in China where the average wait time for the past month is shorter. This change will ensure that applicants throughout China can still apply wherever average wait times are shorter, while preventing wait times from getting too long in places of highest demand. Please note that wait times vary hour-by-hour, and can change dramatically from one day to the next and even within the same day. The only authoritative source of wait-time information is the Call Center at the time you book your appointment. We welcome the ongoing increase in travelers from China to the United States, and appreciate your patience as we continue to improve the experience of those applying for a U.S. visa!

The table of wait times below only shows a snapshot of wait times on a recent day - either the previous workday, or up to a week previous. Applicants may apply in the consular district where they reside, or at any other consular office where the average wait time for the past month is shorter. Contact the Call Center for the most up-to-the-minute information.
